MOTORCYCLE ACCIDENT RECOVERY AND THE CHALLENGES OF IT

They are some of the most vulnerable people on California roads. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, more men and women are riding motorcycles than ever before. It’s not hard to fathom why – beautiful scenery, the sense of freedom it gives and a more affluent society with the means to afford it. Traffic in general has increased over the years, and motorcycle accident numbers are growing right along with it.

The vulnerability of these riders can lead to devastation in an accident. Serious injury and death often go hand in hand with these road adventures in spite of safety precautions. Traumatic brain injury, broken bones and other crushing injuries can take months to heal. Permanent disabilities are possible. They can lead to losses for a family such as an inability to earn a living or provide companionship, not to mention huge and ongoing medical expenses.

So, what can a family do? As they focus on recovery, handing over the burden of investigating liability to someone with knowledge, skill and experience is an option. To some, accepting a settlement to help with the scary financial problems that may be looming is the way to go.

The longer-term risk with this, however, is that it won’t nearly be enough to sustain the family. That’s where an experienced review of insurance offers, projected medical and living costs and potential emotional support needs can play a helpful role.

Most insurance companies have a goal of reducing a payout. Maximizing the value of a case with realistically determined dollar amounts is what can make the difference as a claim goes forward. Settlements are often reached, but if an agreement doesn’t materialize, diligent trial preparations might be the means to a positive outcome. In the end, it could be a dedicated, personalized presentation to a jury that succeeds in winning a case. Sometimes, there exists an extra public bias associated with motorcycle accidents. We believe this can be diminished at trial through utilization of resources, fine attention to detail and an in-depth understanding of the victim and his or her family.
