With summer around the corner, many children look forward to doing fun things they were unable to do during the school year. For many, in California and beyond, that includes visiting locations where amusement rides are located. In addition to amusement parks these locations include fairs and in some parts of the county, even malls. It is likely that few children are thinking about the dangerous tied to those rides.

A recent study lays those dangerous out quite clearly. Conducted by the Center for Injury Research and Policy of The Research Institute at Nationwide Children’s Hospital, it looked at the injuries youths younger than 18, suffered during a 20 year period beginning in 1990. During that period a total of 92,885 injuries that were serious enough to result in a trip to an emergency room somewhere in the country occurred.

The injuries affected the following parts of the children’s bodies:

  • Head
  • Neck
  • Arms
  • Face
  • Legs

Perhaps not surprisingly, head and neck injuries were the most commonly reported, followed by injuries t o arms. The actual types of injuries include broken bones, soft tissue injuries, cuts and strains or sprains. Falls were to blame for the highest number injuries.

A majority of the injuries that children suffered took place during months when kids are traditionally out of school-starting in May and running through September. Each day, more than 20 children are hurt from amusement park rides during the summer season.

When a child is hurt as a result of an amusement park ride, if the injuries are severe, it is possible that dealing with the injury can be expensive. Regardless of the time of year, his or her parents could file a personal injury lawsuit to try to recoup financial damages.
